Age is Just a Number

Age is Just a Number

by Diana Scothorn

We are never too young or too old to have a great life and enjoy it! I remember my mom approaching seventy years old and widowed, saying, I was thinking about getting some new furniture, but I guess that is silly since I’m older and live alone. My old furniture is still ok.

I said, “Mom, get new furniture”! You are retired, not dead! Enjoy the fruit of your labor and do something special for yourself. I told her, you do not need someone living in your home for you to enjoy it. We are meant to…

…live an abundant life! Psalms 92:14 says, “They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing.” Thank you, Jesus; as we grow older, we will not only flourish but be refreshed!

God wants us to be refreshed, not worn down, beaten by life ready to die! He wants us to be refreshed and flourished. That means God wants us to be in a rigorous state and thrive! As we get older, we should be in our prime. Our life should be at its greatest relevance and significance! It puts us in a greater position of influence.

With age comes Wisdom. Psalms 47:9 says the principal thing in life is wisdom. Then it says, so get it! Wisdom is the first and far most critical attribute to living a life pleasing God Almighty alongside Faith! Through some of my biggest failures, I have gleaned wisdom, which is now my biggest testimony. As we get older, we are to impart wisdom to help others. When we apply God’s wisdom, it is our testimony of success!

Godly wisdom acquired through age not only lets others flourish; it prospers our soul as well! Psalms 39:5 makes it clear; age is nothing before God! He does not care how old, or how young we are; He cares how big we live!

He does not want age, keeping us from dreaming big, living big, giving big, and serving big!!! You are never too old to be married, never too old to be happy, never too old to go to college, never too old to start a new career, never too old to be a mother or father, and certainly never too old to dream!

God is able! Nothing is impossible with God! There is no mountain too big, no ocean too deep, that God can not conquer! It’s exciting to know our youth is being renewed like an eagle; we are healed from the top of our head to the soles of our feet, and our age is nothing before God, so nothing can keep us from finishing our race!

Age should not dictate our life. Age is a matter of opinion. I choose to agree with the word of the Lord. He says my age is nothing! Young or old, nothing can stop us from living a big life when we agree with the big God we serve! If we refuse to allow our age to tell us what we can and cannot do, we will find we can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens us!
