I’ve always taught the boys in our family that a true gentleman always treats a lady like fine china (even though we work harder than Tupperware!). Our boys know that ladies are to be treated gently, never harsh. They deserve praise, never ridicule. And you always, always, handle them with care–physically and emotionally.
That’s why I was a bit surprised last week when I overheard Klara yell to her brother…
“Hey, you broke my china!” I walked into the living room and there was Klara and Korben, having a stand-off. Klara was glaring at her brother, and Korben was wearing an expression of complete bewilderment. I finally got to the bottom of the story and found out that they were wrestling over a toy and Korben ended up pulling too hard and Klara fell on the floor. (Yikes! My kids aren’t perfect! Oh, No!). Klara, knowing the concept of how ladies should be treated, immediately saw that her “china” had been broken.
I know many of you feel the same way. Maybe there was a time in your life when someone close to you did not appreciate how beautifully and wonderfully you were created. Perhaps there were harsh words, or curses spoken over you. Perhaps you feel like your wings were clipped before you ever got the chance to fly. Your fine china has nicks and scratches; or maybe you’re just holding shattered pieces and wonder how you’re ever going to put them back together and feel good about yourself again.
Mama, there’s not enough glue in the whole world to repair those breaks. Those cuts run deep, deep into your heart. And just when you think healing is happening, a new wound opens up. But there is Someone who can take your broken pieces and make something miraculous out of them. God’s Word tells us that He is our Healer. He knows our suffering and He’s willing to bear every bit of it. According to His Word in Isaiah 61:3, He wants to give you beauty instead of ashes, gladness instead of mourning. He wants to clothe you in a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
Your past does not determine your future. Give God your broken pieces and let Him do what He does best–create! God is our multiplier. He multiplied fish. He multiplied bread. He even multiplied footsteps of two men one day, so that the opposing army thought an entire army was coming after them. If you feel like years have been wasted in your past, He can multiply the years of your future. If you feel that relationships in your past have been wasted, He will multiply the relationships that lie ahead of you. Trust Him. You’ll have fine china that’s fit for a KING!
