A Key Missing Ingredient

A Key Missing Ingredient

by Meggan Larson

It’s important to stay hydrated for optimal health. I’ve read that you should drink your body weight divided by half in ounces every day. So if you weigh 200lbs then you should drink 100oz of water every day. I’m no expert so please don’t quote me on that but I think we can all agree that we should drink plenty of liquid in order to keep things, ahem, moving.

Many people starting out with Trim Healthy Mama come from a background of very little fiber and once starting out with THM can experience some constipation due to the higher content of healthy fibrous (is that a word?) food. Also, many people coming from a sugar addiction like the one I came from ($30/WEEK on candy at the bulk food store) can experience some nasty detoxing, and drinking plenty of fluids can relieve many of the symptoms as well as reduce the length of time you’re experiencing the yuck. Keeping your body hydrated also cuts down on unnecessary snacking because often we think we’re hungry when in fact we’re just thirsty.

But Meggan, you say…

…water is so B-O-R-I-N-G! Yes, yes it is. So make it interesting! I invested in a soda stream for my family because I adore fizzy drinks and I wanted to stay on plan. My favorite concoction is …

…simply a few drops of lemon or lime essential oil in the sparkling water with some ice and a dash of stevia. Sparkling on plan lemonade anyone? There’s also a ton of variations of Good Girl Moonshine all over the internet.

If you’re easing slowly into this whole healthy way of living then I highly recommend putting less apple cider vinegar in your GGMS at first and trying out variations that call for steeped fruit tea instead of plain water. Also, keep in mind that while the original version of GGMS is a sipper (meaning it can be sipped on all day between and with meals) if you add blended fruit to it, it is no longer a sipper and should not be sipped all day any longer.

Ok, back to the point. HYDRATE! Find versions of on plan beverages that you love (or can learn to love) like the shrinker, GGMS, iced tea (literally tea brewed and cooled and sweetened with an on-plan sweetener), etc. Challenge yourself to get in a few cups of water/liquid before lunch or set a goal for the day. Whatever you need to do to ensure you stay hydrated do it because it is worth it! Your skin will look brighter, you’ll look and feel less bloated, you’ll have more energy, the list goes on. Do me a favor, actually, do YOURSELF a favor and get your drink on mama!
